Former school principal faces historical sexual assault charge

The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit has charged a former local school principal in relation to a historical sexual offence.

The investigation began on Nov. 16 after the victim reported the incident, which is alleged to have occurred between 1988 to 1991 while the accused was a principal at a school in Northumberland. The victim was a student and known to the accused during this time frame.

78-year-old Douglas Kennedy of Peterborough was charged with sexual assault and is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

There is no statute of limitations on sexual offences and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed.
