Stop Sign Enforcement

During the month of March 2020, Members of the Cobourg Police Service will be focusing on education / enforcement targeting Stop Signs in the Town of Cobourg.

Members of the Cobourg Police will be looking for 100% compliance for all roadway users including motorized vehicles and cyclists in order to keep pedestrians safe. The Cobourg Police is asking roadway users to be aware of the importance of coming to a complete stop at all stop signs.

A complete stop involves having no forward momentum, no forward movement of the motor vehicle.  Once the complete stop is conducted and complete, then proceed with caution into the intersection or roadway (street), always being aware of your surroundings.

The Ontario Highway Traffic Act section 136 (1) A Disobey Stop Sign. Drivers are required to come to a full and complete stop at stop signs. Penalties are as follows:
– Three demerit points and a fine of $85. Fines are increased to $150 in Community Zones

The Cobourg Police Service is determined to make our community roadways as safe as possible, through enforcement and education.  The Cobourg Police Service has been enhancing our traffic patrols for 2020 with the Select Traffic Enforcement Project (S.T.E.P.). This project is being run throughout 2020 focusing on a different topic monthly.

Please feel free to call the Cobourg Police Service at 905-372-6821 to report any concerns or reach out through social media.
