Northumberland paramedic honoured at Queen's Park

By Cecilia Nasmith

Long-serving Northumberland paramedic Michael Stumpf has been honoured by the Province of Ontario for exemplary pre-hospital emergency medical services.

Stumpf was one of 68 Ontario paramedics so honoured, all of whom have played this important role for at least 30 years.

All recipients had also previously been awarded their Exemplary Service Medal, an honour created in 1994 by the late Governor General Romeo LeBlanc as a component of the Canadian Honours System to recognize meritorious service characterized by the highest standards of good conduct, industry and efficiency.

Thursday's ceremony at Queen's Park presented each paramedic with his or her First, Second or Third Bar to be appended on to the medal, each bar representing an additional award of the ESM, the first bar awarded at the 30-year service milestone.

Stumpf can now attach a First Bar to his Exemplary Service Medal.
