Cobourg winter parking regulations are in effect

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Town of Cobourg reminds all residents that, as of Friday, Bylaw 080-2014 – the bylaw to regulate the parking of motor vehicles during winter months – is in effect through March 31.

The bylaw states in Part XIII Section 34 that no person shall park a vehicle on any designated collector or arterial roads, as well as all roads listed within Schedule O of the bylaw, between the hours of 2 and 7 a.m. during this period (which is designated the winter parking season).

That section also delegates sole authority to the Chief of Police (or his or her designate) to remove any vehicle that is parked on a road or highway within the town in such a way as to obstruct snow removal on the street. This authority extends to having the vehicle towed away and impounded.

The town appreciates the assistance of its citizens in parking off-street to allow for safe and efficient snow-removal operations during the winter, adding that it is important that these major roads remain clear for safe passage.

They also remind residents that, even though parking is permitted on all residential streets, they are subject to the provisions of the bylaw if their vehicle obstructs snow-clearing operations.
