Sanderson represents Northumberland at ROMA

By Cecilia Nasmith

Among more than 1,000 delegates to the three-day ROMA conference that winds up today in Toronto was Northumberland County Warden Bob Sanderson.

Coming mid-way through the provincial government's current mandate, the Rural Ontario Municipalities Association forum focuses on the pressing challenges and emerging opportunities within these rural communities. It also offers the opportunity for municipal staff and officials to take part in hundreds of municipal-delegation meetings with representatives of provincial ministries to discuss local needs and priorities.

A press release from the Northumberland County listed some of these session topics, including rural health care (including public health and paramedics), broadband expansion and affordable housing – all highlighted as areas of special interest at county council meetings throughout the year.

The press release shared Sanderson's plans to engage provincial counterparts on topics related to economic development, community paramedicine and affordable housing, along with such regional priorities as mobile broadband and health-system transformation through delegations with the Eastern Ontario Warden's Caucus
