Mink assumes Port Hope Deputy Mayor position

Port Hope

In keeping with its policy of rotating the Deputy Mayor's position, the Municipality of Port Hope announces that Councillor Vicki Mink will hold the office for 2025.

In keeping with its system of rotating the Deputy Mayor role on an annual basis, the Municipality of Port Hope announces that Councillor Vicki Mink has assumed those duties for 2025.

Deputy Mayor Mink stated that this system “brings new leadership and fresh perspectives, while sharing the responsibility and ensuring that the core values of our council remain upheld.

“As we enter the third year of our term, it's an exciting time with many important projects underway, and I look forward to contributing to our collective success.”

As Deputy Mayor, Mink will primarily serve to represent Mayor Olena Hankivsky when she may be unavailable. The role is not legislated under the Municipal Act, the announcement noted, but it is widely adopted in municipalities across the country to support council operations and leadership.

In Port Hope, our collaborative leadership approach ensures that every council member who chooses to participate has the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our community,” Hankivsky added, extending thanks to Mink's predecessor, Councillor Claire Holloway Wadhwani.

The announcement gave some background on Mink, including her service on a variety of boards and committees – as well as post-secondary qualifications in business administration (with a focus on tourism), architectural technology, and history and sociology from York University, Trent University and Centennial College. Also, as a devoted world traveller, Mink has visited more than 60 countries.
