Northumberland County Court Services is warning of a new text scam that has begun circulating locally

Northumberland County Court Services is warning members of the community of an ongoing text scam that has begun circulating locally.

The county has learned that some members of the public are receiving fraudulent text messages from phone numbers and e-mails purporting to be Ontario Courts with contact addresses such as pay@ontario-traffictickets.com. These texts often refer to parking or speeding tickets that require payment.

They are warning that these messages may include malicious links that could put your personal information at risk.

They also stress that Northumberland County Court Services will not contact you by text message. Never click any suspicious links asking for ticket payment or personal information by text.

To securely check the status of your ticket or pay a fine, please contact the office directly at 905-372-3329 ext. 5300 or visit Northumberland.ca/Tickets

If you receive such a text message, do not click any links – and report the message as spam to your cellular provider, and discard it.

If you are ever in doubt as to the legitimacy of a sender or message, reach out to the sender directly via a different contact method in order to confirm the message. Be sure to verify the information with the sender using a trusted communication channel before clicking any links or opening any attachments that you were not expecting to receive.
