Northumberland Paramedics, whose duties in recent years have grown to include the field of paramedicine – wellness maintenance – as well as emergency response, announce their new free Wellness Library for seniors, which includes a wide range of specialized sessions and videos

Northumberland Paramedics announces a new virtual Community Paramedicine Wellness Library with the aim of connecting seniors with on-line resources and videos to help improve their health and well-being.

Created in partnership with Community Care Northumberland, the Town of Cobourg and the Cobourg Community Centre, the Wellness Library also includes a broad range of resources suitable for those of all ages and fitness levels.

Examples cited in the announcement include seated or stabilized work-out videos (gentle exercise classes of 30 to 40 minutes, designed to improve flexibility and strength), meditation resources (guided sessions that help reduce stress, improve mental clarity and enhance relaxation) and fall-prevention tips (resources to help seniors reduce the risk of falls and maintain independence).

This is the newest of many initiative the Northumberland Paramedics Community Paramedicine program has introduced to support community health and empower residents to take charge of their wellness.

Preventative care is a key focus of the Community Paramedicine program, Paramedic Chief Susan Brown said in the announcement, offering non-emergency in-home care for those in need.

“Many of our clients are looking to stay active and maintain their independence,” Brown stated.

“This tool connects residents to resources and classes available in the community, through a platform that aims to help to reduce barriers for those unable to access these resources in person.

“The virtual library promotes independence by encouraging regular fitness activities to improve strength and mobility, while also boosting mental health and fostering connection to reduce isolation.”
