COBOURG

The next session in this year's series of Northumberland PACE Speakers Series talks is a look at palliative and end-of-life care with the subtitle Not Why, But When

The November session of the Northumberland PACE Speakers Series talks is a virtual conversation about Palliative Care and End-of-Life Care – Not Why, But When.

Guest speakers Dr. Francesco Mule, Head of Service for Northumberland Hills Hospital's Division of Palliative and Supportive Care and NHH Clinical Nurse Palliative Care Specialist Carolyn Wilson will be joined by Community Health Centre of Northumberland Executive Director Taryn Rennicks as guest moderator for the 5:30 p.m. event on Nov. 28.

Respected for his experience helping local patients and families navigate end-of-life care, pain and symptom management, Dr. Mule works closely with patients, families, staff and medical colleagues in an interdisciplinary approach to the delivery of palliative and end-of-life care in the hospital's Palliative Care Unit, as well as throughout the hospital and the local community.

Wilson recently joined NHH as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, supporting the Palliative Care Unit and inpatient services. In this role, she works collaboratively with palliative care physicians on the unit, acting as a resource for colleagues as well as palliative patients and their families.

The speakers will explore the many unique aspects associated with this field of care, including available services and resources offered at both NHH and throughout West Northumberland.

And as always, questions from the audience are welcome. They can be pre-submitted by e-mailing trennicks@chcnorthumberland.ca prior to the session (or, time permitting, posed live during the event).

PACE talks were the idea of Dr. Mukesh Bhargava, who wanted to see more public education on the questions his patients were bringing him to him most often. The first PACE (Personalized Assessment and Change Education) talks began in 2018. Since then, a broad range of health and wellness topics have been offered, consistently drawing large groups of community members with a variety of questions and perspectives.

Each hour-long session includes a 30-minute talk, a 20-minute question-and-answer period with the guest speaker(s) an a short moderator summary.

Pre-registration is required, as space is limited to the first 300 registered attendees. The event is hosted through Zoom, and attendees will be asked to log in five minutes prior to the start.

You can sign up for Palliative Care and End-of-Life Care – Not Why, But When at www.pacetalks.com, where you'll also find recordings from many talks from previous seasons.

Bring your questions, your suggestions and your experience, and join what is expected to be another informative discussion on a topic chosen by previous PACE attendees.
