Christmas season at Port Hope's Capitol Theatre has something for everyone – not just the traditional holiday panto, but the 28th annual Festival of Lights and Trees that opens at 5 p.m. Nov. 22
As the Christmas season takes shape in Port Hope, don't forget to include the Capitol Theatre in your merrymaking plans with a visit to the 28th annual Festival of Lights and Trees that kicks off at 5 p.m. Nov. 22.
Wednesdays through Sundays until Dec. 22, there is a schedule of open times at the Queen Street theatre where you can stroll among more than 70 trees and wreaths that have been sponsored by generous local businesses, while you decide which ones you want to buy raffle tickets for.
For almost three decades, the Festival has been an important fundraiser for the Capitol Theatre, which thanks this year's sponsor Elliott Insurance Services.
And if the Festival is on, the theatre will be featuring the Christmas panto. This year, as always, both naughty and nice takes on a classic tale will be onstage.
For 2024, it's Rapunzel: A Merry (Hairy) Panto, a twisted take where Rapunzel discovers the power within, all set to a score of popular songs and beloved panto traditions.
And even when you are enjoying a show and taking a break at the concession stand, there's something special going on. Again this season, the Capitol Theatre Volunteers have pooled to use their concessions gratuities to make a $500 donation to the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank.
Speaking of which, the Capitol hopes you'll consider the gift of theatre, with gift cards available in any denomination for any event.
