Contracts Renewed for Cobourg Police Chief and Deputy

The Cobourg Police Services Board has renewed Chief Kai Liu’s employment contract for four additional years expiring in September of 2021.  

At the same time the Board provided Deputy Chief Paul VandeGraaf a renewed five-year employment contract expiring in October 2022. 

Board Chair Bryan Baxter said that under Chief Liu’s leadership there has been a significant change in the police service’s culture of community engagement and response to community concerns.   

As a united senior management team, he said the Chief and Deputy have its members more engaged with the community and are at the forefront of mentoring our youths. 

Baxter said detectives are working collaboratively with community partners to combat violence against women and enhance support for victims of crime, and frontline officers are highly visible.  

Police Chief Kai Liu said he is proud to be surrounded by excellent members of the Cobourg Police Service and that together with Deputy VandeGraaf as his partner that they will continue to meet and exceed the expectations of Cobourg residents. 

Liu became Cobourg’s 12th police chief in September 2012.
