Joint Effort To Reduce Impaired Boating Deaths
Cobourg has long been a port for pleasure boaters, both Canadian and American.
While we all love a good day on a boat, too often, alcohol comes with it. The impact of wind and wave exacerbate the impacts of alcohol and can lead to lessened judgment, poor coordination and impaired driving ability. Drinking accounts for 40 percent of water-borne fatalities.
With those harsh statistics in mind, the Canadian Safe Boating Council is coordinating with the OPP for what they call operation dry water. The aim is to reduce boating accidents, fatalities, and ensure a better boating experience for all.
