OPP Launches "Move Over" Campaign

The OPP has issued a recent report highlighting an increased amount of “move over” tickets. These are tickets given to drivers who fail to move over and yield the lane of traffic to emergency services vehicles.

In 2016 alone, there were a record number of citations for failure to pull over for emergency vehicles.

In order to increase awareness, the OPP and other agencies are reminding you that it’s the law to slow down when approaching a stopped emergency vehicle from the same side of the road with its lights flashing and on multi-lane highways, to move over a lane, if it can be done safely.

There were at least 11 reported incidents where OPP vehicles were struck by cars while responding to incidents.
