The Cobourg Fire Department has issued a holiday safety reminder

A Port Hope speaker shares his experiences in a futile bid to save a significant woodlot last year in an attempt to warn Northumberland County to beware of significant potential to find loopholes in new legislation that he believes may fail to provide sufficient protection for trees.

Northumberland County has announced that this first blast of winter has found its Public Works team ready for the season's challenges.

A new Director of Development Services comes to Port Hope Jan. 2, as Desta McAdam reports to the position at 5 Mill St. S. with a CV that includes key leadership roles in Belleville and Cobourg.

Director of Finance Matthew Nitsch's report didn't have any recommendations for that additional amount, though he said that to debenture it as well would not put the county over the provincial ministry's debt-repayment limits.

More questions than answers was the result at a presentation on the local drug poisoning crisis at December's meeting of the Northumberland County council Community Health Committee, but the presents will return to the regular county council session Dec. 18 to try to answer some of those questions.
