Cobourg

Cobourg recognized National Volunteer Week last week by honouring more than 40 residents at their 22nd annual Civic Awards ceremony in the Victoria Hall Concert Hall.

Major category winners have been announced.

Angus and Bernice Read Volunteer Award – Stanley Isherwood

Arts and Culture Award – Wally Keeler

Environmental Award – Richard Pope

Heritage Award – Judith Goulin

Layton Dodge Athlete of the Year Award – Ava MacCoubrey

Leadership in Sport Award – Dave West and Dave Singfield

Lloyd C. Stinson Memorial Award for Community Service – Jan Stapleton

Mayor's Award of Distinction – Carol Farren

Outstanding Senior Award – Ruth Smith

A list of Distinguished Award winners has been posted at www.Cobourg.ca/Civic-Awards. On that list is Northumberland 89.7 FM's own Trevor Joice for the Education and Technology award.

“While volunteers operate on the same 24-hour clock as the rest of us, they somehow find the time to give back to our community, and their impact is amazing,” Mayor Lucas Cleveland observed.

“That is why I moved to this community, and it is why I love our Civic Awards program – because we get the chance to give a little to those who give so much.”

The Town of Cobourg extends heartfelt congratulations to all award recipients, and the Civic Awards Committee thanks all who submitted nominations and helped these deserving individuals be recognized.
