CFUW Northumberland's next fundraiser to support their scholarship program is as simple as a Monday matinee.
It all went so well last year, CFUW Northumberland is pleased to announce another Film Fund Raiser this year, on March 24 at Cobourg's Rainbow Cinema.
And like the $4,000 raised last year, proceeds from the event will support scholarships and apprenticeships for young women in Northumberland County.
“We did our first film fundraiser last fall, and people enjoyed it so much that they wanted us to do it again,” Astrid Hudson said.
While CFUW scholarships have helped local girls heading for university for many years, Hudson added, the organization also began offering apprenticeships three years ago when they heard that more girls were going into the trades and needed support.
In fact, this will be the subject of one of their monthly meetings, when someone from Sir Sandford Fleming College will visit in June to tell members more about their apprenticeship programs.
The March 24 film is Suze, a 2023 Canadian comedy-drama whose title character has a bad case of the empty-nest blues after her daughter Brooke goes off to university. Brooke's ex-boyfriend Gage is still around, however – and though Suze never much cared for him, she finds herself stuck being a mother figure to the guy.
The 2 p.m. show includes popcorn, thanks to a special deal from Rainbow Cinema – not bad for $25, and you get a tax-deductible receipt.
And thanks to partnerships with Boston Pizza, CJs and Best Western, ticket holders get a special 10%-off deal for lunch prior to showtime or for a bite afterwards.
CFUW also thanks their movie sponsor, Julie Parker, realtor with Royal Services Real Estate Inc. Brokerage.
Tickets are available at cfuw-northumberland,org or through Canada Helps.
