Cobourg

The Cobourg Fire Department battled it out on the ice with the Cobourg Police Service March 1 for Battle of the Badges honours, and took home the Chris Garrett Memorial Trophy

In one of the most hotly contested contests on the hockey calendar, the Cobourg Fire Department beat the Cobourg Police Service in the March 1 Battle of the Badges – and the winner is Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-West Durham and Northumberland, for whom the event raised $9,076.

It was the second annual Battle of the Badges, as 1,200 fans reported to the Cobourg Community Centre to see the highly anticipated match that ended with the Fire Department coming away with the Chris Garrett Memorial Trophy (donated by CJ's Tap and Grill).

Funds were raised through donations at the entrance and through such initiatives as a raffle, cookie sales, merchandise donations and sponsorship. The Cobourg Cougars got on board too, donating proceeds from their 50-50 draw and chuck-a-puck contest.

The Town of Cobourg extends thanks to the event sponsors – including Brock Street Brewery, Puck It, Canadian Tire and New Amherst Homes – as well as community members who attended and showed their support.
