Health unit sends Immunization Notice Letters next week

Northumberland County

Families of students not in compliance with legislated requirements for up-to-date vaccinations will be notified next week, and failure to comply can result in suspension by April 1.

Immunization Notice Letters will be going out Jan. 13 to families of students who do not comply with the legislated requirement to have up-to-date immunizations or an exemption to attend school.

No notice will be going to any family where compliance exists and no further action is required.

In the case of the health unit, the requirement applies to students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 11 (birth years 2008 through 2020) in three school boards – Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board and Trillium Lakelands District School Board.

Follow-up to these letters will be in the form of a March 17 suspension notice for all students without an updated record or exemption, such suspension to begin April 1.

To assist families without access to a health-care provider, the health unit will offer winter immunization clinics based on community demand, details of which will be posted on the health unit website.

The health unit also encourages families to use its new on-line Immunization Update Portal, which facilitates record keeping, ensuring compliance with legislated requirements, and promoting a safe and healthy school year for all students, allowing families to update record directly.
