County invites members of the public for a look at new shelter

Cobourg

In advance of the 35 shelter spaces opening on its second and third floors, 310 Division St., Cobourg, is offering members of the public a chance to drop in and get a look at the facilities following the opening of its ground-floor 24/7 warming/cooling area last month.

With renovations to second- and third-floor shelter spaces at 310 Division St. nearing completion, the County of Northumberland and Transition House are inviting members of the public for a look at their Cobourg facility on Dec. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m.

It's an opportunity to drop in, view the space and learn more about the services that will be provided.

The ground-floor facilities opened Nov. 13 as a 24/7 warming/cooling space – a safe place to rest, access washroom and shower facilities, do laundry and get something to eat. This space will operate year-round.

Upstairs, completion of the 35 emergency shelter spaces is anticipated to be done before the end of December, marking the facility's transition to a fully operational modernized shelter.

On the fourth floor, 10 transitional-housing units are expected to be available within a few months, offering longer-term supportive housing solutions.

And on-site services are being located at 310 Division St. to facilitate access to wellness, social, employment and housing supports to help individuals on their journey to life stabilization.

Security measures include Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, 24/7 on-site security and mobile security for non-emergency security inquiries to ensure a safe environment for clients and for area residents.
