Cobourg Police charge 17-year-old with firearm, sexual assault offences
A weapons call in Cobourg led to a 17-year-old being arrested north of town, in Roseneath, police stated Sunday morning, Dec. 31.
It’s unclear when the incident occurred and attempts to get comments from Cobourg Police were unsuccessful, but a release stated officers were called to the area of University Avenue West and Ontario Street for threats involving a firearm.
Northumberland OPP assisted – locating and arresting the suspect in Roseneath. Police seized a GSG 16-22.cal long rifle and ammunition.
The suspect, who wasn’t named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with four counts of Uttering Threats Causing Death, Using Firearm in Commission of Offence, Sexual Assault and Overcoming Resistance to Commission of Offence. The youth was detained following a bail hearing.
