Doors open in Cobourg

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Town of Cobourg is pleased to announce the reopening of Victoria Hall – as well as other municipal buildings – to the public for walk-in service.

Chief Administrative Officer Tracey Vaughan – who has taken a few minutes at every council meeting for many months now to offer a COVID-19 update - said in the announcement that they are pleased to welcome the community back.

“Our on-line, phone and drop-box services are still available and will continue to be offered as an alternative to coming into Victoria Hall,” Vaughan added.

At Victoria Hall (55 King St. W.), the lobby is now open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please enter through the main doors to proceed to the appropriate department.

For finance and administration services, debit and cheque payments are preferred for garbage-tag purchases, parking-ticket payments (which you can also pay on-line at http://parking.cobourg.ca/), parking permits (which you can also pay on-line at https://parking.cobourg.ca/), transit passes and tax payments (though on-line banking payments and drop-box and mail options are still preferred).

In-person appointments for questions regarding tax accounts or accounts receivable can be made by calling 905-372-8944, or e-mail taxes@cobourg.ca (for tax accounts) or accountspayable@cobourg.ca (for accounts receivable).

All deliveries to Victoria Hall (such as parcels) can be received through the front doors.

For building and planning services, virtual consultations and meetings will continue, and a number of in-person services will be made available, including:

  • Building, sign, pool and plumbing permit administration, including application receipt, processing, payment, plans review, inspections and enforcement

  • Liquor license approvals

  • Emergency building inspections, property standards services and other critical safety-related matters

  • Permit database management and reporting (CityWorks Permits, Land and Licensing – PLL)

  • Review of Planning Act, Heritage Act and Heritage Permit applications

  • Information requests or complaints that involve emergency or safety-related matters

  • Planning Act application database management and reporting (CityWorks Permits, Land and Licensing – PLL)

It is encouraged to continue business and communications through e-mail, videoconferencing or phone. And those submitting application and plan submissions are encouraged to do so via digital means or courier wherever possible. Council, committee and public meetings will continue in hybrid form until further notice, and bylaw enforcement will operate as usual. In-person services from the Office of the Clerk will include commissioning services, marriage licenses, dog-tag licensing and in-person enquiries.

It's operating business as usual for Public Works, though business and communications are encouraged to continue through e-mail, videoconferencing and phone.
