Blue Rodeo returns to CCC June 16

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Town of Cobourg has partnered up with the Cobourg Cougars Junior A Hockey Club to bring Blue Rodeo for a June 16 concert at the Cobourg Community Centre – again.

The date marks almost exactly 10 years since this iconic Canadian country rock band played the CCC the first time, not long after the CCC opened. The show will include a variety of songs from the group's 16 studio albums released over an impressive 35-year career that includes more than four-million albums sold, dozens of Juno nominations, a spot in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, a star on Canada's Walk of Fame, and such prestigious awards as the Order of Canada and the Governor General's Performing Arts Award. The show comes on the eve of a national tour for their newest album Many A Mile.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with the Town of Cobourg once again with the hosting of this premier event and bringing some excitement and awareness to our community, hockey and local business partners – especially after such a long hiatus due to the pandemic,” Cobourg Cougars Governor Marc Mercier said in the announcement.

“This is a true partnership for Northumberland Hockey, having all local clubs at all levels involved and with us being able to give back to all organizations and the community at large through this event.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the main canteen and bar open to offer a variety of food and beverage options. Guest opener musician Evan Farrell kicks off the show at 7:30 p.m. The evening's guest emcee will be Joe Bowen, the voice of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In addition to bringing an exciting live event to the community, concert proceeds will go towards supporting local Northumberland hockey clubs.

“It's time to bring back in-person concerts, and energize our community after years of isolation and restrictions,” declared Councillor Adam Bureau – Coordinator of Arts, Culture and Tourism.

“We are extremely pleased to partner with the Cobourg Cougars bringing live music to an intimate setting, while raising awareness and support for our local hockey organizations.”

Ganaraska Brewing Company has signed on as Co-Presenting Sponsor for the event, with other event partners to date including Northumberland Minor Hockey Association, West Northumberland Girls Hockey Association, and Port Hope Panthers Junior C Hockey Club. Cobourg Cougars Director of Business Operations Erika Seggie welcomes enquiries about other sponsorship opportunities at erikaseggie1@gmail.com

Ticket prices start at $75 plus HST and applicable fees, and will be on sale as of 10 a.m. March 7 – with Blue Rodeo Fan Club members having access to a pre-sale. Tickets are available at experiencecobourg.ca or through the Victoria Hall Concert Hall box office (905-372-2210), and accessible seating is available.
