Barrett Street Bridge Milestone

Barrett St. Bridge 3 Final Used (08-25-17).JPG

Back on May 13 of this year the 32 Combat Engineer Regiment was in Port Hope to remove the old Bailey Bridge on Barrett Street.

This past Friday, the bridge replacement project took a major step forward when the main bridge structure was gently placed on its final resting mounts with the aid of two monstrous cranes.

The many onlookers were treated to a spectacular sight as the two cranes, one rated at 450 tons, the other at 350 tons, towered over the river.

The bridge structure itself, which weighs in at 82 tons, had been assembled on the east side of the river over the past 3 weeks.

The balance of the construction is expected to be completed later in October.
