Robert Mikel, author of Cobourg: The Spirit of the Place, was met with a huge crowd at the book signing Sunday afternoon at the Citizens Forum of Victoria Hall. Lineups stretched to the stair way as people queued to buy the first edition and have the author sign his autograph. Several patrons asked that specific pages be autographed signalling the photograph of the buyer's home.
The book is a Canada 150 project of Lighthouse Press. It features remarkable photographs of Cobourg's outstanding architecture and tells Cobourg's social history by providing the stories of notable inhabitants of the featured houses.
Mikel is a widely respected Toronto historian and author who traces his roots to Cobourg and is widely regarded as an expert on Cobourg's history and architecture.
