Port Hope residents charged with animal cruelty

Two Port Hope residents are facing cruelty charges after allegedly leaving animals abandoned in Kawartha Lakes.

Police claim two dogs and a cat were left in a rental unit for up to one month. Officers discovered one dog deceased, while the other was in critical condition. While the cat was in poor health.

The surviving animals were rescued by the Ontario SPCA and received treatment.

The animals were apparently left without adequate food, water and living conditions.

The unidentified pair were arrested and charged, later released with a future court date.
