The traffic lights at the busy University and D'Arcy intersection that many residents in that area have wanted for so long are finally in the cards, as Cobourg announced three traffic-signal projects that begin next week and should finish up by mid-November.

This particular project was to proceed 10 years ago, but was cancelled when major upgrades to Division Street ran over budget.

New traffic signals are also planned at D'Arcy and Elgin streets, in partnership with Northumberland County, and the town will upgrade the existing signals at Division and University.

This work will include underground electrical work, curb and sidewalk reconstruction and minor road restoration, so temporary lane restrictions and occasional traffic-signal disruptions will occur during construction.

The overall budget for this work of $800,000 has been approved by council, and affected households are being notified.
