Northumberland Players are pleased to bring back their summer Play Reading Series – which they sum up as “three nights, three plays, one cash bar and absolutely no reason to dress up.”

Taking place at the Firehall Theatre (201 Second St., Cobourg), tickets are $15 (and yes, there is a cash bar) to enjoy this unusual take on some favourite plays.

The one on July 23 is Neil Simon's Biloxi Blues, following Eugene Jerome trading in his Brooklyn adolescence for army boot camp in Biloxi, Mississippi in 1943.

Jake Lauder, Craig Martin, Graeme Murphy, Jeremy Brans, Matthew Brown, Jordan Page, Marley Soutter, Amy Deremo and Ian Eddy will read the parts (directed by Evan Soutter).

Two more play readings follow – 84 Charing Cross Rd. on Aug. 14 and Love, Life and Foofy on Aug. 28.

Another Northumberland Players summer tradition comes Aug. 19 with their annual barbecue to celebrate their upcoming season. It's a chance not only to enjoy familiar faces but also to welcome anyone who might be interested in joining the Players.

The event is free at 5 p.m. at the Lions Community Centre (157 Elgin St. E., Cobourg), but admission is by ticket in order to help with planning.

Tickets to these events are available on the Northumberland Players website, and the season they will be celebrating has been announced.
