A scary scene for many on Highway 401 eastbound in Northumberland County Sunday evening, as an alleged drunk driver was weaving dangerously before crashing near the Big Apple.

Port Hope Police tried to stop a blue Hyundai, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed on to the 401.

Authorities say they received information from the public regarding the vehicle being driven dangerously, including travelling at high rates of speed and passing vehicles on both shoulders of the highway.

Just before 7 p.m., the vehicle was involved in a multi-vehicle collision, with the driver and passenger fled on foot into a wooded area.

Tyler Lazure was arrested and faces several charges. He was held for a bail hearing.
