The big headline from the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation's annual general meeting June 17 is that a year of extraordinary generosity and community support made their 2025-2026 fiscal year the most successful to date – with more than $7.5-million raised in support of patient care close to home.
This is more than just numbers on a balance sheet, Chief Executive Officer Rhonda Cunningham said.
“It is a testament to how deeply our community cares about its hospital, and how willing people are to support its success.
“This record-breaking year reflects trust, belief and a shared understanding that a strong hospital is the heartbeat of a strong community.”
Cunningham shared key highlights and accomplishments of the fiscal year, including incredible support from third-party fundraisers, strong community support of the Light Up A Life campaign and other special events, the introduction of a refreshed brand, and key advancements to policy and organizational capacity led by the board.
Reflecting on her first year as Chair of the Foundation's Board of Directors, Carrie McArthur Low commented on her board colleagues' dedication and support, also praising Cunningham and her staff for the care and passion they bring to their roles, as well as the NHH leadership team for their expertise.
“I have gained a better understanding of the pressures facing our health-care system, the complexity of decision making and the unwavering commitment to quality care by those who lead it,” McArthur Low added.
Following the acceptance of the audited financial statements, the Board recognized outgoing Directors – Past Chair Gavin Ivory, Treasurer Ian MacVicar and Physician Representative Dr. Kate Everdell.
Immediately after the annual meeting, executive roles and committee chairs were confirmed for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, with McArthur Low and Denise O'Brien continuing for a second term as Chair and Vice-Chair (respectively). David Dexter, who joined the board in 2023, moves into the role of Treasurer.
