County encourages all to shop local

As spring blooms into being, Northumberland County invite you to celebrate your favourite locally grown business for a chance to win.

From farm-fresh markets, patio dining and outdoor adventures to spring-time shopping and customer-centred local services, local businesses help the community grow and prosper. To help spread the word, supporters are curating a map of community recommendations – which you are invited to help supply.

Submit a shout-out for your favourite Northumberland business to be included on the map, and you will be entered to win a $500 gift basket full of fresh local finds from businesses throughout the community. Shout out your choice at Northumberland.ca/BuyLocally Grown

The final map will be shared on social media at the end of the campaign so that everyone can view and explore these local recommendations.

As part of the campaign, you can also take the pledge to shop local, affirming your support for this spring and beyond.

Prosper In Northumberland – a collaboration of local business associations, municipalities, media and business owners from across the county – is leading a community-wide initiative to encourage Northumberland residents to redirect a portion of their average monthly spending to local businesses. You can show your support to shop local at BuyNorthumberland.ca

There is no extra spending required, and you can choose how much of your spending you would like to redirect to local businesses – the pledge is simply a way to declare your commitment to supporting local businesses instead of shopping on-line or out of town for some portion of your routine monthly shopping.

As well as supporting your neighbours' jobs and our local economy, shopping local invests your money directly into your own community – supporting local jobs, local charities, community events and groups, and local taxes that help contribute to a better neighbourhood.
