The Town of Cobourg invites residents interested in running in October's municipal election, or registering as a third-party advertiser, to attend two upcoming Candidate Information Sessions, on April 30 and May 14.

These sessions are designed to provide practical guidance on the election process, including candidate and third-party advertiser responsibilities. Attendees will learn about nomination and registration requirements, campaign rules, financial obligations and compliance considerations.

The April 30 session is a Town of Cobourg Candidate Information Night, featuring a Municipal Government 101 presentation from municipal law expert John Mascarin, as well as a presentation from representatives of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. It takes place at 6:30 p.m. at the Venture 13 centre (739 D'Arcy St.).

The May 14 session is a Northumberland County Candidate Information Night, taking place at the county headquarters (555 Courthouse Rd.) at 6 p.m. This one will include a presentation by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and will offer the opportunity to connect directly with local municipal clerks to ask specific questions. As well, the county clerk will be available to provide information related to the role of county councillor, for anyone interested in running for mayor or deputy mayor.
