The Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce announces Speed Campaigning with Alnwick-Haldimand Candidates, an Oct. 14 event that begins at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the Alnwick Civic Centre in Roseneath.

The format allows direct interaction between candidates and members of the voting public – who must pre-register to attend.

Participants will be assigned to a table as they arrive (guests arriving together will be seated at separate tables). The host will call the event to order and invite each candidate to present a two-minute overview of his or her campaign platform. Candidates will then sit at different tables, and the interactive part will begin.

A bell will ring, signalling five minutes of uninterrupted discussion – questions, answers, a round-table conversation. The session ends when the next bell rings, whereupon the candidate will move to the next table. This will continue until each candidate has completed the full circuit.

The Civic Centre is located at 9059 County Rd. 45, and the event is limited to 88 persons. To register, e-mail chamber@NCCofC.ca, call 905-372-5831 during regular business hours, or visit Upcoming Events at www.NCCofC.ca and register as a non-member.

The event takes place just before the official Voting Period begins in this year's municipal elections, which is Oct. 16 through 26. For anyone who needs help with telephone and internet voting, there are four Voter Assistance Centres.

At the Grafton municipal office (10836 County Rd. 2), help is available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 16, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 to 23, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 26.

The other three centres are open for one designated day:

Alnwick Civic Centre – Oct. 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Grafton Fire Hall Station #1 (434 Edwardson Rd.) - Oct. 18, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Centreton Community Centre (2363 County Rd. 23) – Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
