Health officials are warning of an increase in suspected drug poisonings in Northumberland County.

Lakelands Public Health says the substance is suspected to be fentanyl or tranq. It has been described as dark pinky – brown with purple flecks and crumbles easily.

Reportedly the current substance causes extreme sedation, lasting hours and may be difficult to rouse the individual.

Multiple doses of naloxone may be required. Free naloxone kits are available through public health or local pharmacies.
