The Oct. 30 activation of stop lights at D'Arcy Street and University Avenue marks the end of the second of three traffic-signal improvement projects the Town of Cobourg announced in July.

This follows the new traffic signals installed at D'Arcy and Elgin Street East in partnership with Northumberland County. These signals were activated Oct. 16.

The third project involved existing signalization at Division Street and University Avenue, where the signals are being upgraded to include left-turn signals for all intersection approaches. The work is ongoing.

This work was approved as part of the town's 2026 capital budget and funded through the Infrastructure Reserve. In the case of the D'Arcy-Elgin signal, the county contributed costs for the infrastructure and the town contributed costs for civil works such as curbs and pavements.
