The Northumberland PACE Speakers Series continues Oct. 22 with Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar: Managing the Two Big Numbers.
The 5:30 p.m. Zoom session will feature guest speaker Dr. Behtash Saeidi MD, MPH, ABIM with introductions by internal medicine specialist Dr. Mukesh Bhargava (who originated the series in 2018).
Dr. Saeidi will explore genetic and environmental factors contributing to both increased blood sugar and hypertension, treatment targets for various age groups, lifestyle choices and improvements individuals can introduce before considering pharmacotherapy and medications, as well as treatment targets and goals of therapy after initiating treatment.
“The PACE partners are excited to bring this important discussion about blood pressure and blood-sugar levels, as they are important indicators of cardiovascular health,” Dr. Bhargava said in the announcement,
“Understanding these two numbers can help individuals identify ways to improve their overall health and reduce risk of potential cardiovascular risks.”
Dr. Saeidi is an internal medicine specialist who completed residency training in internal medicine at Maimonides Medical Centre in New York and his fellowship in Hospital Medicine at the University Health Network/University of Toronto. He is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
The PACE series (the acronym stand for Personalized Assessment and Change Education) began when Dr. Bhargava came up with the idea of public sessions to answer the questions most frequently posed by his patients. The monthly hour-long events include a 30-minute presentation followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer period. Partners in the presentations include Northumberland Hills Hospital, the NHH Foundation, IMCare internal medicine specialists, the Northumberland Family Health Team, the Community Health Centres of Northumberland, Community Care Northumberland, the Ontario Health Team of Northumberland, and local patients and caregivers.
Questiosn can be presubmitted by e-mailing mbhargava@imcare.ca though, time permitting, they can be posed live during the event.
The session is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to join five minutes prior to the start. You can register at pacetalks.com
The presentation will be recorded and made available on the NHH website.
