The Town of Cobourg Legislative Services Division is pleased to announce the winners of Cobourg's youth I Voted sticker contest for this year's municipal and school-board elections, with Desi and Walter coming out on top in their respective age categories.
Voting in the Town of Cobourg has, for some time, taken place on-line to allow a secure and convenient way to vote any time and any where during the voting period (Oct. 16 to 26). Printed stickers with a winning design will be available to voters who have cast their internet ballot, at Voter Help Centres as well as at the Clerk's Office at Victoria Hall.
Meanwhile, the town thanks all who entered the contest. Submitted artwork can now be viewed in an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Northumberland (third floor west at Victoria Hall) until Oct. 26.
Oct. 26 is also the deadline for another youth contest – the My Ideal Town essay contest.
Students aged 17 and younger are invited to submit a 350-word essay describing their vision for an ideal town – the programs, services and community features they would like to see in the future. The deadline is 8 p.m. Oct. 26, and each submission must include the full name of the writer, his or her age and/or grade, parent's or guardian's name, and parent's or guardian's e-mail address or phone number.
Submissions can be made by e-mail at cobourgvotes@cobourg.ca or by mail to the Municipal Clerk's office (55 King St. W., Cobourg ON K9A 2M2).
All entries will be submitted to the newly elected council, with one selected to be read by its author at the inaugural council meeting. And all entrants will be invited to attend that meeting, meet their council members, and stay for the reception that follows.
Any voter who needs assistance can contact the town directly, or use one of the three Voter Help Centres.
At Victoria Hall, help is available from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 19 to 25, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 26.
