Chris Collins resigns as Port Hope councillor

Chris Collins has resigned as a Port Hope councillor after being appointed a Justice of the Peace by the province.

The Justices of the Peace Act requires him to terminate other employment and abstain from engaging in any political activities upon appointment.

Collins was a Ward 2 rural representative and his portfolio was Chair of Protective Services.

Council will declare his seat vacant at its Feb. 13 meeting and then has 60 days either to appoint an individual to fill the vacancy or pass a bylaw to declare a by-election.
