One man has been arrested and two others are still sought in relation to gun shots fired at Cobourg’s west beach on Aug. 16 in the area where an encampment was set up.
Members of the Cobourg Criminal Investigations Branch, with the assistance of uniform officers worked around the clock for eight days to identify the suspects responsible for this incident.
Investigators authored search warrants for two residences and the suspect vehicle. With the assistance of the Port Hope Police Service Criminal Investigations Branch, Durham Regional Police Tactical Unit and the Peterborough Police Emergency Response Team, two search warrants were simultaneously executed at separate residences in the Durham Region.
One of the three suspects was arrested at his home without incident and transported back to the Cobourg Police Service. The other two males are still outstanding.
Kersi Buakasa, 19, was arrested and charged with a number of offences including attempted murder using a firearm; Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm; occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm; Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl; Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine; Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine.
Buakasa was held for a bail hearing Friday.
