On Thursday, MPP David Piccini announced that YMCA Northumberland has received $150,000 in grant funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund.
The grant has helped the YMCA to build a healthy and active community by building retrofits and support for upgrading the facility, creating a better Northumberland community. This grant has assisted a local non-profit to deliver the best service possible to those in need and ensure our community will have ready access to their programming.
“Organizations like the YMCA Northumberland are a crucial and valued part of any community, especially here in Northumberland County,” said MPP David Piccini. “Countless people rely on their services every day, and our government is ensuring they can continue supporting those who need it most.”
In total, the Ontario government is providing $31 million this year through the Resilient Communities Fund for 295 non-profit organizations across the province. The fund provides grants of up to $200,000 over two years to eligible non-profit organizations to build capacity, resilience, and sustainability.

This funding helps non-profits adapt and grow – ensuring they can continue providing the best service possible to the people of Cobourg and make a positive difference.”

“The essential funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund Grant has played a pivotal role in enabling our YMCA to cater to the escalating needs of Northumberland County’s residents,” said Eunice Kirkpatrick, Chief Executive Officer, YMCA Northumberland. “As a result of our enhancements and maintenance upgrades, users will benefit from significant improvements in health, safety, and comfort in the facility for years to come.”
Due to the Ontario Government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation, the YMCA was able to upgrade its environmental control system and install a new pool cleaning system, as well as add two new pool-area windows and introduce a double-lock door system for safe and controlled access to the building. The grant has also helped purchase new floatation equipment in the pool area for children and families to enjoy. Furthermore, the Y’s outdoor spaces were optimized with a large pavilion, composite picnic tables, and storage sheds, expanding capacity and providing a comfortable, protected space for kids in camps and childcare programs to thrive and play.
