Ed's House appreciates young supporter

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Ed's House hospice-care centre has always enjoyed wide and enthusiastic community support, but one of its youngest fans has now been responsible for raising more than $6,000 for the Hamilton Township facility.

Community Care Northumberland has announced the results of Chace Xavier's second annual campaign of accepting unusual challenges in return for donations to Ed's House.

This has been the way he has celebrated his birthday for the past two years. With his 13th birthday just past (on May 27), he has completed such tasks as having his hair dyed pink, attending school in a dress, having a condiment shower, shaving his head and holding a one-man fashion show down his street. At $500 per challenge, this accounts for the $2,000 he has raised this year.

“It's local – I know it's going to an amazing cause,” Chace commented in the announcement.

“I know that every single dollar raised will be put to good use.”

This year, Chace had some additional inspiration – after having a house fire, he said he wanted to help others as others had helped his family.

“We are extremely thankful to Chace for his continued support and this year's wonderful gift to Ed's House,” Director of Hospice Services Sherry Gibson said.

“It was fun watching him complete his challenge to raise money for the continuing care of our residents and families. Chace is a thoughtful, inspiring young man.”

You can still support Chace with donations to his mother's e-mail at nicole2009@gmail.com or on the Ed's House website at Donate Now

And if you donate on the website, please put Chace's name in the Notes section so the family can keep track of the total.
