During Paramedic Services Week, May 22 to 28, Northumberland County invites the community to join in recognizing, celebrating and thanking local paramedics and the professionals in the paramedicine field who help preserve life and promote safety in our community. This year's Paramedic Services Week theme – Faces of Paramedicine – highlights the many and varied roles in that profession. Throughout the week, residents are invited to follow the Northumberland County Facebook page (@ncounty) to learn more about these roles and the individuals who perform them in our community.
Also in celebration of this week, children in the community are invited to submit creative artwork to help decorate the walls of local paramedic bases, for the chance to win a prize.
In the announcement, Warden Bob Crate offered his own thanks to the county's paramedicine professionals, “who, through their work, improve the health and well-being of our community.
“Paramedic Services Week is a great opportunity to learn more about, and show our appreciation for, the important services delivered by the Northumberland Paramedics team. We invite community members to take a moment to get to know some of our local paramedics by visiting the Northumberland County Facebook page during this week of recognition, and we invite children to help brighten the halls and smiles of Northumberland Paramedics by submitting colourful artwork.”
Parents and guardians are invited to download and print the Paramedic Services Week colouring page available on the county website and submit their children’s artwork to Northumberland Paramedics by June 10. The contest includes three age categories (ages 3-5, ages 6-9 and ages 10-12). Each participant will be entered in a random draw, and two winners will be selected from each age group to win fun paramedic-themed toy prize packs.
Completed colouring sheets can be photographed or scanned and submitted by email to paramedics@northumberland.ca or drop them off in the Inspections drop box located outside the front entrance at 600 William St., Cobourg.
“Paramedicine professionals are highly skilled, extensively trained and always ready to serve their community,” Northumberland Paramedics Chief Susan Brown said in the press release.
“These professionals provide vital specialized care and service to our community — whether it’s providing preventative personalized care to vulnerable community members through our Community Paramedicine program, responding to emergency life threatening situations as first responders, administering COVID-19 vaccinations and assessments in collaboration with community partners, or providing support services behind the scenes to assist with the delivery of care,” she listed - “all of these roles are essential to ensuring the well-being of our community.
“In recognition of Paramedic Services Week, I want to thank our local paramedicine professionals for their dedication to excellence in the delivery of care, and we look forward to celebrating their service all throughout this week.”
