Attend hives to help shape OHT-N priorities

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Ontario Health Team of Northumberland invites you to help set health and well-being priorities through a series of Strategy Hive sessions next month.

This is the next step in the collaborative effort the OHT-N has been leading, bringing together patients, caregivers, community members, and health-care and community-service providers to shape the future of care and services together.

Community Care Northumberland Executive Director (and OHT-N Co-chair) Trish Baird said that a series of 2.5-hour mini-planning sessions – or Strategy Hives – is the next step in their consultation process, following up on themes that emerged through Community Conversations and provider focus groups in March, as well as a Community Experience Survey that ended April 4.

Northumberland Family Health Team Executive Director (and OHT-N Co-chair) Adrienne Bell-Smith said these will be Zoom events, with the option for participants to join through video or phone.

“We thank everyone who has participated in this unique county-wide cross-sector planning process to date,” OHT-N Experience Partner Council Chair William Prawecki said in the press release.

“We are extending this next invitation to all who wish to join in the conversation, including providers, patients and caregivers, and all with an interest in improving health and well-being in Northumberland.”

Interested participants can register for as many hives as they like.

Strategy Hive One – Equity, Inclusion and the Basics of a Healthy Life – May 11, 9:30 a.m. to noon

What can be done creatively in Northumberland to address such chronic issues as housing, poverty and inequity that impact our community's health and well-being? What can we do to ensure that everyone feels welcome, no matter where they seek out help?

Strategy Hive Two – Primary Care Solutions – May 12, 6 to 8 p.m.

What could be done differently to creatively meet the needs typically address by family physicians and nurse-practitioners?

Strategy Hive Three – Aging Well at Home – May 17, 3 to 5:30 p.m.

What innovative solutions can we design together for the proactive support of seniors and those living with chronic conditions to age well in their homes?

Strategy Hive Four – Elevating Mental Health and Addictions Care – May 18, 6 to 8:30 p.m.

What new models of care and support could be adopted to better address the mental health and addiction needs in our community?

Strategy Hive Five – Making Our Health System Simpler and Easier to Navigate – May 19, 3 to 5:30 p.m.

How can we build upon a strong foundation of community collaboration to improve how people find the services they need to create a simpler, more-connected system of care?
