When it's time to dig, Dig Safe

That new flag on the community flagpole at the Northumberland County building as of Monday morning recognizes Dig Safe Month.

Dig Safe Month is recognized in Ontario each April to during the month of April to raise awareness of safe digging practices, improve safety and reduce damages to underground infrastructure.

As the spring digging season begins, homeowners and contractors are reminded to Call or Click Before You Dig by contacting Ontario One Call to check for gas lines, electricity, telephone, internet and TV cables wires, or water and sewer connections in the area, before breaking ground on construction, landscaping or any other digging project.

“Dig Safe Month is an important reminder of everyone’s individual responsibility to put safety first to protect the well-being of our community,” Deputy Warden Mandy Martin said in the press release.

“Damaging underground services can have serious consequences. With a quick click or call, we can help protect our loved ones, neighbours, and co-workers from injury, health and safety risks, property damage or loss of essential services.”

The Dig Safe Flag will fly at the county building until April 18.
