NHH relocates its COVID-19 Clinical Assessment Centre

By Cecilia Nasmith

Northumberland Hills Hospital announces the return of its COVID-19 Clinical Assessment Centre back to the portable trailers outside the hospital's emergency department.

The move is taken in support of the province's staged resumption of non-urgent/non-emergent hospital services that have been ramped down since Jan. 6, the announcement said.

Open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Clinical Assessment Centre operates with on-going support from a multidisciplinary team of hospital staff, area primary-care providers and Ontario Heath Team Northumberland partners. The services it offers include:

  • Quick, direct access to a clinician

  • An alternative to the Emergency Department for those with worsening symptoms or questions regarding whether or not their symptoms might be COVID-19

  • Booked appointments, often on the same day, with no need to wait in the ED

  • Phone-based triage option to start (often helping one to avoid an in-person visit)

  • On-site testing with results in 12 to 24 hours (provincial eligibility for testing applies)

  • Coordination of COVID-specific treatment with approved medications as applicable

While walk-ins will continue to be welcomed, the team asks that you please call ahead at 905-377-7783 or 1-833-678-2435 for a phone-based nursing assessment prior to arriving on site.

For more information on these services, visit nhh.ca/covid-centre or follow the street signage for wayfinding directions upon arrival at the hospital (1000 DePalma Dr., Cobourg).

As always, in all urgent situations, call 911 or go directly to the nearest Emergency Department.
