The Town of Cobourg will follow suit with Northumberland County's announcement, and lower flags on all municipal buildings in honour of 215 Indigenous children whose bodies were detected on the grounds of a former residential school.
“On behalf of senior staff, Cobourg council and the citizens of Cobourg, I have asked that all flags of the Cobourg government be flown at half-staff in memory of the 215 Indigenous children whose lives were tragically lost at Kamloops Indian Residential School for nine days – 215 hours to honour each of their lives,” Mayor John Henderson announced at this week's committee-of-the-whole meeting of council.
“And on behalf of our community, please accept our heartfelt thoughts at this time, not only to BC and Kamloops but for the entire nation of Canada.”
