Catch the GO-VAXX bus in Brighton this Sunday

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit invites you to take a giant step in terms of protection against COVID-19 on Sunday, when the GO-VAXX bus will be in Brighton.

Set up Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at King Edward Arena (at 75 Elizabeth St.), the retrofitted bus that now services as a mobile vaccination clinic will offer, first, second and booster doses – as well as vaccines for children aged five to 11 – on a walk-in basis.

And as you wait, pre- and post-vaccination, a warming area will be set up inside the adjacent King Edward Park Arena where you can stay warm and dry.

“Getting aboard the us for a vaccine can put you on the road to better protection against COVID-19,” HKPR Health Promoter Doreen Boville said in the announcement – which detailed current regulations that apply.

At present, people born in 1951 or earlier, Indigenous adults (and adult non-Indigenous household members), health-care workers and essential care providers, and those individuals who received a full series of AstraZeneca or Janssen vaccines can get a third dose – provided that it has been at least 168 days since their second dose of vaccine. Third doses for those aged 50 and over does not begin in Ontario until Dec. 13.

Anyone wishing to get a vaccine on the GO-VAXX bus in Brighton is asked to bring their Ontario health card. If you do not have a health care, or if your health card is expired, bring another form of government-issued photo ID such as a driver's license, passport, Status card or birth certificate.

Local residents are reminded that the health unit is also holding vaccination clinics throughout the county. A list of dates and times through the end of December is at www.hkpr.on.ca (or call the health unit at 1-866-888-4577 ext. 5020.
