Two days after the Province of Ontario announced a new emergency order prohibiting organized public events and social gatherings of more than five people, Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf addressed how this will be enforced locally.
At a press conference Monday, VandeGraaf said such enforcement will be complaint-driven.
“So when a member of the community calls in, our officers will respond and manage the situation as we find it,” the chief said.
“The Cobourg Police service will warn and education, and if there are further refusals, we would proceed with charges.”
The emergency order was issued under the Emergency Management and Civic Protection Act.
