Keep this number handy

It's slow going so far for the Town of Cobourg's new COVID-19 hotline, but communications co-ordinator Ashley Purdy says the word is getting out about information and referral services available by calling 289-677-0585.

The announcement of the new service got 10,000 hits and was shared 124 times, but Purdy said this is just a start. The town will be ramping up its efforts to get the word out that this new service is available.

Early callers to the line, announced just last week, mainly seem to fall into two areas of enquiry: local businesses and the faith community.

Callers want to know what businesses are open and how they have modified their hours and business practices, Purdy said. And there are plenty of questions about places of worship.

The voice mail is checked every morning, she said, so questions can be answered in a timely manner.

Purdy reminds everyone it is a referral service as well as an information line. If people have questions about symptoms or how to be tested for COVID-19, for example, they can be referred to the appropriate resources.
