Ganaraska River Art
People who walk along the east side of the Ganaraska River across from the Old File Factory will now be greeted by a new work of art in place of the graffiti that previously marred the long retaining wall.
The art is the creation of Mique Michelle (pictured above), from Field in West Nipissing, Ontario. The work is a colourful array of swirls that includes a 50-foot salmon.
Ms. Michelle has been responsible for creating large murals in many countries including Mexico, France, the United States, as well as Ottawa, Sudbury and Niagara Falls.
She came to do mural work at Cultivate and arrived a couple days early. Not wishing to miss an opportunity, she took the 10 cans of spray paint she brought with her and created the mural.
Approval for the project came quickly, thanks to the assistance of Kevin Narraway and Jim McCormack of Port Hope and Debbie Beattie with Critical Mass Art.
The last picture below is that of the earlier graffiti which marred the wall.
