Councillor Ward 3: Sandra Walls

I have called Trent Hills home for many years, raising my family here and now watching my grandchildren grow up in the same community. I have lived in Warkworth and Campbellford, spent many summers in Hastings, managed businesses on Bridge Street, worked with local businesses and organizations through Career Edge and the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign, and volunteered throughout Trent Hills.
I also bring previous municipal councillor experience and currently work supporting the Chief and Council of Alderville First Nation. These experiences have given me a practical understanding of governance, budgets, competing priorities and, most importantly, the responsibility that comes with representing people at the council table.
Throughout this campaign, I have deliberately focused on listening and not making promises. I have been listening to and speaking with residents, farmers and businesses about what matters to them and what they expect from their next Council.
Some of the issues I am hearing include affordability and municipal taxes, responsible spending and long-term infrastructure planning, support for local businesses, recreation opportunities, policing and community safety, cell service, health care, and concerns about major projects that could affect our community.
I believe Council must distinguish between wants and needs, understand the full long-term cost of its decisions, pursue grants and partnerships wherever possible, and be prepared to ask difficult questions before spending taxpayers' money.
I will bring experience, preparation and an independent voice to the table. I won't promise that I will always have the answer, but I will listen, do my homework, ask the questions that need to be asked, and make informed decisions in the best interests of Trent Hills.
